Hi everyone! I learned today that I managed to get a 35 on my ACT! While I was delighted to get such a score, I'm uncertain as to whether I should retake the ACT (36 Science, 36 Writing, 34 Math, and 34 Reading). I'm looking to apply to a few top universities (UChicago) and considering my lackluster? GPA of 3.90 (realistically, I will end up with a low B in BC Calc and a high B in Physics B), so do you think that I need to retake the ACT? Thanks in advance!

Your time is better spent on other parts of your app

I’d retake it til you get a 36. That one point is going to be the deal breaker for sure. And a 3.9 GPA? Idk if you could make it into college.

Give me a break. A 35 is amazing, as is the 3.9 GPA. You’ve got a good chance (stats-wise) at getting into any college you want. Don’t fret over one point.

Thanks for all the advice everyone!

Yes, I was looking at the admission statistics for Cornell or Brown (I forget) which is similar to uChicago and they provided the admit percentage by ACT score. If I recall right it was around 12% for scores 32-35 and around 22% for a 36 so yeah I would retake it if you think you can get a 36

Bro, surely you aren’t being sarcastic or trying to joke?

I’m pretty sure anyone on this planet would take a 35 ACT and a 3.9 GPA. I don’t think you understand how amazing those stats are, just alone, and how many students do not have those. Sure, students have a 4.0 GPA, but do they have a 35 ACT?

Just focus on the other parts on your application. I would emphasize on the essays - this is the crucial part of your application. If your stats bring you one step within acceptance, the essays should make (or break - God forbid) the deal.

@tys123 Thanks for all the information and help! @elitepwnage I’m not trying to joke :P, but thanks for the great advice!
