Hypothetically speaking, say the next semester is my last at CC and my goal is to transfer to UCLA. I have all As and one B. Assuming the CC would let me retake a B class (not sure if they allow this), would it be a good thing to do so?

I heard admissions look down on duplication. Taking the same classes twice with 2 different passing grades. You can only retake if you failed the class before. Not too sure on that though.

I’d say take the B and move on. This isn’t high school anymore, you’re not expected to keep a perfect 4.0, and a B really isn’t a bad grade. You’d be better off spending the time on new classes, or in an EC or something.

A “B” grade isn’t worth trying to replace in my opinion. Moreover, your CC likely has a policy barring students from retaking classes that they didn’t earn C’s, D’s, F’s, or W’s in.

A “B” won’t have an impact on your chances of getting admitted to UCLA.

Pretty sure you can’t retake a B. even if some super strange reason your CCC allow it I don’t think the UCs will take your new grade into consideration.

@Chromite - It would actually be worse it looks as of you’re attempting to cheat the system and admissions at UCLA would see that.

If you feel you deserved an A and have coursework you feel should have been given a better grade because it is factually good A level work then you have the right for 3 years after the course has been completed to submit an academic challenge challenging to grade and it will be reviewed.

So either challenge the grade or suck it up and keep striving for other A’s but retaking it isn’t an option.

you can easily find the answer on the UC website by doing a search for UC policy on repeating classes for transfer students.
