The biggest reach school I'm applying to is Boston College. I have a 3.846 gpa (w) and recently got a 31 composite on the ACT with no prep whatsoever( the power was actually out that day and the one before due to a tornado haha). I got a 30 on both math and English, 31 on reading, and a 33 on science. Should I retake even if a 31 is slightly (by like .5 ) above average?

Any opinions?
Thanks

A 31 is definitely not slightly above average. It’s a decent score. And if your target is Boston College, 31 may be a competitive score. Check its admissions profile and see where your score fits in -> is it on the low-end? high-end? That might give you a better picture of whether you’re going to retake it or not.

I’m applying to Boston college too! I got a 30 on my Act without any prep and I’m retaking in the fall. the act, unlike the sat, claims that you can study to improve your score, so if you’re willing to put in some work I bet you could boost your score.

I retook a 31 to get a 34–do it.

Doesn’t hurt to retake but if Boston College is your 1st choice, then a 31 will suffice.
