34 composite
31 english; 35 math; 34 reading; 36 science; 9 essay; 30 english + essay
(First try)

I also have 780 chem, 800 math level 2, and 800 chinese (native lol)

I'm pretty happy that I have those scores, but my school is basically SAT based, and my college counselor says 'you can retake the ACT if you really want too'. It seems like he thinks my english score isn't high enough...

Should I even retake the ACT? I want to major in engineering and apply to schools like MIT.
I know that my score is really high, but the english score is around the bottom 25 percent of the accepted students at these schools.

Thanks.

Colleges don’t frown at all on multiple ACT attempts. I only took it once, but taking it twice is completely fine. Three is borderline, four is too many.

What would have to gain from retaking the ACT? You are already in the 99 percentile with that scores.

I was wondering the same thing a year ago, and I decided to retake my 33 and I’m glad I did. I went from:

33
E34
M32
R32
S33

to

35
E35
M36
R35
S35

I just took more practice tests and worked on my timing, I think I was less nervous the second time too, also with superscoring, you don’t have to worry as much if you kinda bomb a section you already did well on. Hope this helps!

yea you should retake!! pros>cons

What is the gain of going from the top 1% to higher in the top 1%? Don’t you have anything better to do than take standardized tests?

tigerash-can you lay out the pros of taking the test again? You stated that the pros are greater than the cons but you never stated what pros are. I fail to see the pros. Once you have a GREAT score getting one that is slightly higher doesn’t do all that much for you.

I think you should. It wouldn’t kill you to do it.
