What minimum ACT score would most on CC be comfortable with and not retake it?
Assume the student in question was in the top 5% of their class, with good ECs and letters, and they were interested in the top schools including some ivies. There seems to be little downside in retaking it, other than some added stress, since you can choose which test sitting scores you send....would a 30 cut it? 32? thoughts?

Within reason, the higher the score, the better. If one feels that he or she can improve, it is usually best to retake.

I definitely get that. But, if you are at the 99th percentile, will 2+ points matter?

34-35

Or in other words

an SAT

score of 2260-2340.

^ That seems about right for the top schools.

I would say anything greater than 34+ is good enough for most schools, but a 35 is really the goal for the Ivies. Considering the fact that the Ivies consider the SAT with higher regards, a person in top 5% who is not valedictorian needs a 35/36 to get in.

If you ask that question, you apparently do not get it: the higher, the better. 2 points could make a difference.

It is best to avoid speaking in absolutes in that way.

wow…silver turtle…how many of your bajillion posts were that sarcastic?

anyway…thanks for the input…higher the better…i get it…

I was merely attempting to elucidate the reality and note the contradiction in your post; any seeming sarcasm was incidental.

yeaaahhhh I didn’t really see the sarcasm…

I think my main question was at what score would your student retake the ACT. Obviously not everyone will get a 36. I was asking if someone had a 35, would it really be worthwhile (cost, time, stress) to retake it, or a 34, or a 32.

I appreciate hotinpursuit’s and shaheiruddin’s answers…the ROI for retaking a 34 or 35 seems low.

32+ is good enough for any school imo, but you need other factors to boost your application.
