What score is a good enough socre on the SAT II so that you do not need to retake for top collegs like MIT?

I got a 760 on the SAT II Chemistry test...I think its a good enough score but a lot of my friends say that its not that great for MIT because its only the 85th percentile or so?

What do you guys think? Should I retake it? I really dont want to , but I know for sure that I can do better because I took 3 tests this time and by the time I got to chem (last test), I didnt realize how stressed out I was.

Also, before responding, I also made the USNCO (the united states chemistry olympiad), which I guess is kinda surprising because I only got a 760 on chem (most of them get 780+), but I was wondering that if you were a admissions officer, would you view my 760 as a fluke or my USNCO as a fluke because of the 760 on the SAT Chem test? Thats also another reason why I might retake because that 760 kinda makes my chem olympiad look kinda bad...

Thanks

I got a 730…sigh I’m retaking becaue I know I can get 770+ if not 800. The may exam was harder than usual and I made so many retarted mistakes. Percentiles don’t really matter on the SAT 2 Subject tests. Still Retake because I’m sure you also probably made dumb mistakes on the test and have the potential to get that 800 or atleast close to it.

btw I’m a sophomore in a regular chem class…

There’s absolutely no reason you should retake anything above a 750. There is no possible benefit. MIT says that once your scores hit 700+, then you’re fine, no difference between a 720, 750, or 800, and they’re one of the most competitive schools, especially on the numbers front.

Don’t retake it. Focus on other SAT IIs.

Yeah once you hit 750+ they’re not going to want someone who got a 790 or 800 more than you. It just won’t come down to a minute difference like that.

Well USNCO tests more advanced stuff so maybe colleges will just assume you were a bit rusty with basic concepts.

760 is a great score.

thanks guys

I wasnt really thinking about retaking…the only thing that had me considering it was the fact that I made USNCO + only got a 760 (sorry dont mean to sound like “only”, but its not that great with USNCO) + the fact that I know that I can do better. But I guess I wont waste my time with that…besides the only time I can take it is in October, and by that, Ill be busy with other stuff.
