Hi,
I am technically supposed to be a junior but by hours I am still a sophomore. I want to attend NYU Law more than anything. My problem is, is that, my freshman and beginning of sophomore year, I was a nursing major. Science was not my thing and my sciences courses and some other classes dragged my GPA down so bad. Those 3 semesters, I wanted high grades but I was just focusing on passing so I could get into nursing school. My school has this connection of partnership with Baylor Nursing School which means that Baylor is required to hold a certain amount of spots for students at my university. So all I was focused on was passing so I could have a spot because for the most part it is fairly easy. But now, I switched majors and it is biting me in the butt. My GPA is still under a 3.0 and I need to have at least a 3.7 so I can apply to a fairly good law school. I am just thinking that my best option is to stay an extra semester or two and/or retake my sciences courses any courses that brought me down so I can improve my GPA. I regret so much for the low effort I put in my first 3-4 semesters but now I have changed, seen my mistakes and I am motivated and ready to take my college and future career seriously. I NEED to improve my GPA. I don’t know what to do and I am afraid it might be too late. Any advice helps, thank you.
Generally retaking courses will not help. The only way it will help is IFF the school has complete grade replacement, in other words, the school eliminates the first grade and only shows the second repeated grade on the transcript. Otherwise, LSAC counts everything on every college transcript.
Staying longer and taking more courses before earning your BS/BA will help if you earn A’s and nothing but A’s.
That being said, mathematically you can’t take enough courses to get your GPA above NYU’s median (3.8), so you will still need a high LSAT score which means 17x for NYU.
