Hi, I took a cc course duringg the summer of highschool, can I retake the course to replace the poor grade I got to show college admissioners the better grade??
Whether or not you can retake a course depends on the policy of the college [the community college in your case]. The policy may be (in one case with which I’m familiar) is that you may retake a course in which you’ve received a passing grade and both the new grade and the old grade would appear on your transcript. However the new grade would not be used in the GPA computed by the college. There may be cases in which the new grade “replaces” the old grade although I have not done any research regarding this. My intuition is that this may be the case for failing grades, although again both the failing grade and the new grade would likely appear on the transcript.
So call the CC in question and ask about their policy.
The bigger question is whether or not the CC grade (good or bad) matters for college admissions purposes. Does the grade appear on your high school transcript? Are you obliged to report it to colleges to which you’re applying? It may not be worth your time (assuming you’re entering senior year) to spend additional time on such a course.
Not sure it will replace the grade. Check with your guidance counselor.
Is the CC grade on your HS transcript or not?
If it is not, then just don’t send it.
The CC Course I took IS NOT part of my highschool transcript, it is on a separate transcript. However, people told me that I have to report ALL A-G courses to UCs during admission.
@rhandco - UCmaximillian can’t just not send the transcript. When a student applies to a degree program at an accredited college or university in the US, that student is obligated to provide official copies of all transcripts. No matter how old. No matter how ugly. No matter how few credits were earned. No matter if the place issuing the transcript is accredited or not. The transcripts are necessary. Period.
@UCmaximillian - Just how bad is the grade? What is the policy of the CC for grade replacement? If you haven’t completed the course yet, and you expect to fail the course, do you still have time to withdraw from the course so that your transcript only shows a W rather than an F?
It’s going to be lower than a C, D or F. I am not too sure of the CC grade replacement policy, I’ve always thought I’ll just sign up for the course again during fall season. I asked a UC advisor and she told me to retake the course again. I do not have time for it to show W rather than an F.
