Retake either SAT or ACT?

I just got back my scores on both the ACT and SAT and I dont know if I will end up taking them again. Any feedback?

SAT- taken 2 times, superscore is 2180
Here are the scores I got both times:
CR- 780, 720
M- 600, 660
W- 670, 740

as you can see, my scores have actually gone up a fair amount in math and writing between the two tests. would it be beneficial to retake for a 3rd time, considering my improvements between the first two takings?

also, i took the ACT in june for the first time without studying AT ALL or even opening a single review book (i was a little burned out/overwhelmed with finals). but i ended up getting a 31.

should I retake either test?

Well a 2180 is better than a 31, however, if you actually study for the ACT it could go up. However many CCer’s overrate the power of studying, the point of these tests is to not be studied for, it makes a difference but not that much of one. The real difference maker is practice. Reading through pages upon pages of math review and strategy is NOT helpful; taking timed math practice ACT tests and then looking over your answers is helpful. I wouldn’t retake the SAT, but if you gather a few old ACT tests from either a book or from your counselor and practice them(it’s not neccesary to start now for an october test, AT ALL, you can wait until september) then I would receommend taking the ACT again but you don’t have to by any means.
