Hi, I'm applying to some top schools [HYP, Williams (legacy), UChicago, Cornell, Penn among others], and I am having a dilemma regarding my SAT score.

I have a 2140 (800 W 670 CR 670 M) and I found out that almost no college puts substantial weight on writing. I really do not want to retake the SAT again (this would be my third time). Would colleges even skim over an 800 in Writing?

I am very confused; please help and shed some light.

Also, I'm an African American Male if it makes any difference.

Definitely retake to improve M/CR by 60-100 points each for a decent chance at those top schools. Cornell doesn’t even look at Writing.

Retake, colleges don’t care about writing. Congrats on the 800 though!

No comment on the retaking , but many, if not most colleges DO care about writing. Check the common data sets.

Thanks, everyone. I’m gonna retake it and focus mainly on math because if I do improve my CR, it’ll only be by about 20 points.

Do I really need to improve each by 60-100 points each? Haha I highly doubt I could get a 2340. :P

No, but getting both scores at least 50 points higher would be great.
