Retake Just for Math?

Hey,
After a stressful day, I finally got my ACT scores: a 35 composite, with a 36 in everything but math, where I scored a 33. I know I should just be happy and move on, but I do plan to pursue math and engineering after high school. My plan is to wait until the writing score comes out and retake it if I did poorly on that, because I was pretty exhausted by the end of the test. Is this logical? Or am I being to obsessive (note, I am a current junior, so I have time to figure these things out)?

If it helps, I have a 770 on Math II SAT II (I’ll probably retake it when I take the chemistry exam in the spring) and have done well on tests like the AMC and the AIME.

I think it depends on which level of colleges you’re applying to

No. It does not matter. Once you get past a 34, colleges don’t really care.

Is it your first score? Are you positive you can do better or equal in all sections? Then I’d go for it.

If that was your third try, or you think your other scores will decline, then don’t.

I plan to apply to top colleges, or and/or to get scholarships at mid level ones.

There is no need for you to retake. Your ACT score of 35 will not be a barrier to admission at any college.

Use the time to work on other aspects of your application.

Congratulations on a great score.

ACT composite >35 colleges don’t care. SAT II >750 colleges don’t care. You’re in a good shape. By the way it seems that you’re just one point away from a 36 composite… just 1 more correct answer in math… But anyway, 35 is a great score! Congrats!
