My son (rising senior) received a 710 on the SAT Math 2c, and 770's on both the US History and Bio E SAT II's. Should he retake in the fall? He wants to retake his SAT I in October. Applying to UC Berkeley OOS and other top 25 schools.

Yes, retake the Math 2. But only Math 2.

While you’re there you might as well retake USH and Bio E, just saying. I retook a 760Chemistry, because I was going to take physics, and was pleasantly surprised by an 800 on the Chem.

I got less than 650 on the Math Level II, was not extraordinary in ANY way (no real national awards or whatever) and I got into an Ivy. It’s not all about the Math II score.

A 710 is top 65%. Certainly not bad, but not impressive. Taking the SAT should really take priority, but if he is going into any math-related major has the time (he should be able to take and submit subject scores as late as the January test date, that’s what I did), it’s in his best interest to retake MathII. Could also consider taking any other subject test while he’s there if he is prepared in any- the more the merrier, and he can use “Score Choice” to pick which subject test scores do and don’t get sent if it doesn’t go too well (colleges insist that sending a bad score is worse than sending no score).

I would advise retaking if you have the chance. Many applicants get that 800, and although it doesn’t mean he won’t make it into schools he applies to, it certainly can’t help. Assuming you get a great score for October, then at least consider taking it in November.

yea 710 is too bad unfortunately . Hope he’ll do well…
