I probably got a 770+ on today's test, but most likely not an 800. If I didn't get an 800, should I retake it because I want to apply to schools like MIT (especially), Harvard, Princeton, Stanford (especially), etc?
Wouldn't a math/science school like MIT expect an 800?
And do colleges know that you retake it? Do they know what score you got the first time?
Thanks!

EDIT: lol the title should be when, not is... hahaha I'm tired from taking the test today.

yes they see it and i don't think you should retake it though im in a similar predicament myself... i think i'm going to retake if i am below 750

same boat, more thoughts? From the scoring method, an 800 and a 790 could be very different depending on how many you missed for the 800. 790 means you missed at least 7, while 800 could be missed 6 or 0.

well everyone here says it was pretty hard, so I would really hope. Maybe if we're REALLY lucky -8 could be an 800. But a doubt it. Realistically they'd push it down to -7=800

The curve for the official test in the CB Blue Subject Test book was 44/50 = 800, so this one will probably be around 42/50 cause of the highly increased difficulty.

800 is not needed for anywhere. 750+ is enough to qualify as an applicant at the mentioned schools. More important will be your grades and activities. For MIT try to do some research and win awards if possible that is what they value most.
