I will make this short.
Just ending my first year in college, going towards a B.A in Anthropology.
I am doing the IGETC option hoping to transfer to a UC from a CCC.
I was doing fine with my classes, all A’s… Until I got stuck with Chemistry which fulfills Area 5 under Physical Science. I currently have a low D, and even if I get an A on my final (which is very unlikely at this point) I will barely get a C.
The IGETC says “all courses used for IGETC must be completed with a “C” or better.”
So my question is: If I get a D, and take another class in the same Area under Physical Science, will it replace that one in the IGETC? Can I just move on?
Chemistry is not a Major course for my degree but it is worth 5 units. So RIP to my GPA. I regret taking it so bad. HELPPP…
No the D will still stay and bring down your GPA badly if you don’t retake that class specifically. If it’s too late for a W, just take the D and retake it. Find a prof with a high ratemyprofessor rating and really reflect and see what the issue was, You should be fine. It’s chem 1 at a community college, I feel like anyone who works hard enough can achieve at least a B in that level. Plenty of students in your situation bounced back and received a A the next semester. The worst thing you can do is not retake it tho, cuz it’ll be an absolute GPA killer, esp cuz as you said, it’s 5 units.
Ericbadmon is correct. You need to retake the class. However, you probably will do better as you’ve been through it once. Also it must be taken for a grade. Even if P/NP is allowed (and it was an option if it was for IGETC) you cannot replace a letter grade with a P. The letter grade will remain.
