I was just wondering if you guys though that i should retake my SAT, i had my mind set on applying to NYU STERN.
Math-790
Reading-590
Writing-700

It doesn’t hurt to take it again to try to increase your reading score. Your math and writing are great but the 590 just doesn’t look great and the whole purpose of that is to give an idea of how well you’re good at critical thinking (although it’s not a good measure really).

It would be in your best interest to retake the SAT since your reading score is considerably low, even for the other NYU school’s standards.

What would my target reading score for retaking it? (with STERN in mind)

Well…why not take it again? I mean, if you thought it might help you to wear a more professional looking tie to a job interview, wouldn’t you? It certainly couldn’t hurt.

A target reading score, in my opinion, is anything north of 700.

You broke 700 in two sections. To them, you look like your study habits are imbalanced. A retake here is essential. Right now your combo is 1380/1600, quite below our average. Try to bump it at least 100 points so it’s in the ballpark of your others.

^^^ Agreed. That 590 seems very out of place. It’s going to make any admissions officer look at your scores and ask themselves “what the hell happened here?”

…bump

I think you’ve found your answers.

670 is your minimum target.

I took the SAT I four times and ACT once. Went from 2000 first time to 2240 and 34 ACT. Accepted. It’s worth trying.
