retake SAT for transfer?

okay...so I have 1460 scores right now when I took it during high school...and I have 3.96 GPA that I got for my CC....and I am aiming for Columbia University Transfer...I should retake my SAT...right? Or should I just explain my problems or something? And just do well out side my campus and be active? Thanks!

What’s your score out of 2400?

um…its up there…1460

Well, retake just to be safe. Explain your SAT score? Why? You have an awesome GPA, explaining it will just make the college look at your weakest point.

A couple of questions:

Was this score an aberration? Meaning, do you think an addendum or section of your personal statement could help sort it out?

Ideally, as a transfer student, you want your scores to be in range with the rest of your class. Right now, I think this means somewhere around a 2250, I think.

If your score was, in fact, the product of some devastating circumstance, don’t necessarily take it again. Take it only if you’re confident that you can do significantly better (by this, I mean somewhere around 2100+).

It is kind of bad. Good colleges expect you to be at least over 500 and very selective colleges expect you to be over 600. 1460 means that you averaged 480. That is bad. And by the way, the school won’t see your lowest score, so as high as you can get, the better!

Thats not bad!!! I did worse, and was a direct admit to my school at Indiana university!! GPA,grades, and recommendations are more important!! The SAT’s are meaningless if you have great grades, and don’t plan to apply to Ivy league type schools. Why Colombia ?
