Need some advice, please: D applying to selectives, a couple of Ivies, engineering. She has good scores, but we're hoping for a shot at some merit scholarships, e.g, Duke, Vandy, JH, UChicago, WUSL. Does it make any sense to retake, especially the Math, yes or no? She's already overstressed as it is, and could use the time for her essays.
SAT II: Math 2, 750; Chem 740
SAT I: 2360 (800 Math)
AP Calc and Physics: 5

no, absolutely do not retake.

It does not make sense to retake.

Agree with the above; her time is better spent elsewhere.

No, do not retake.

I don’t think she should retake–her scores are good enough. I retook a 750 Math II for an 800, but in hindsight I’m pretty sure that 50-point boost didn’t make a difference in my application. I don’t think merit scholarships at these institutions are awarded on the basis of high standardized test scores, but even if they are, I’m sure she’ll still be in the running.

Best of luck!

Thanks for the replies. I think she’ll choose to put more time into her essays and not retake the tests.
