I wanted to know if it would be smart to retake my SAT :530 M/ 530 CR/ 560 W. . I am a first year student at GMU and my GPA is a 3.267 for the fall semester. I am looking to transfer to UMCP. In high school, I was a part of the IB program and had a 3.5 GPA by the time I graduated. National Honor Society/alot of volunteer work/was a tutor for esl children were some of the ec's in high school. Also, I was registered to take my ACT for the first time today, but STUPIDLY overslept! I'm SO upset :(

anyway, are SAT's going to be taken into consideration much for fall admission at UMCP? and I have never taken the ACT so I wanted to give it a shot, should I register again for the April test? Thank you all, I would appreciate any insight :)

I *think/i most colleges won't consider SAT / ACT scores after the first year of college as it defeats the initial purpose of why there's pre-college testing to begin with.

Thanks you guys. I took my SAT in one sitting in my senior year in high school, and told myself that it was too boring to retake, lazy I know, plus I didn't study. I'm sure if I take it again and actually study this time, my score will increase significantly. But then again, if I do apply for transfer with my new SAT score, would it be taken seriously since I did retake it after a semester of college already?

^^ It depends on the school. Most colleges will say whether they'll accept it after you've attended college - I think the cutoff is first year.

I.E. Here's NYU's req's for SAT transfer.

If you are applying as a transfer student and you took either one of these tests while in high school, you should not retake the tests now; simply submit the results of your high school SAT I or ACT examinations. If you did not take the SAT, the SAT I or ACT examinations in high school and have been in college less than one year, you must take one of these tests and submit the results as part of your application.

Hi i don’t mean to get in on your post but i don’t know how to make my own yet! i want to know if i should retake my sat or act to be a first year college transfer. i’m going to cal state fullerton in the fall but i want to transfer to pepperdine or ucsb. my sat was sadly a 1440 and my act was a 19. i know i could improve it to atleast a 1800 i kind of blew it off when i took it. my gpa is a 3.8 though and i have a lot of ec. any advice???

Sorry to introduce an entirely new scenario, but these posts are too relevant for me not to ask. I’m enrolled in a state institution and have a 4.0. I’m very involved and in many leadership roles in my school and church, and am in the honors program. I’m applying to transfer to a prestigious school in the fall of '17. However I am concerned my ACT score will hurt my admission chances. They require ACT scores for transfer applicants, and I made a 25 in high school. Additionally, college retakes are inadmissible for this institution. If nothing else, should I consider retaking the ACT for outside scholarship qualification purposes?
Thank you and I would greatly appreciate insight! : )
