So, I currently have a really low SAT (1320 M+R) (1930 M+R+W) but got a good ACT (32) and I want to apply to some schools early action, but they also recommend taking two SAT Subject Tests. Should I retake the SAT or take the Subject Tests since the only SAT date before November 1 is the October 3 date?

Take the SAT II. Your ACT should compensate for your lower SAT I, and if you’re deferred to RD, you can retake the SAT I before decisions are made for that round and resubmit your scores.

Take the SAT subject tests. (This assumes there are schools on your list that require them.)

You never have to submit both SAT and ACT. Only submit the best. In your case, you should only submit your ACT. (I assume it is ACT with writing–if not, you’d have to check all the schools on your list to be sure you don’t get tripped up on that point.)

(Note, you may be confused by the fact some schools have a rule that requires you to submit “all tests.” That doesn’t mean you have to send both SAT and ACT. It is referring to all sittings of the same test. So if you take the SAT twice, that school wants you to send both SAT scores. Some schools follow different procedures when you take a test multiple times, e.g., superscore (they will consider your best score in each subsection across multiple sittings), score choice (there are several variations of this, but essentially, you get to choose which of multiple sittings you send), etc.)
