Sooooo SAT scores were released today and I got a 770 on M Bio and 760 on Math 2. I am aiming for top colleges (Georgetown is my dream, but also applying to UPenn, Berkeley, Michigan, etc). I was wondering if anyone thinks I should retake them- especially Math 2 as I want to go into finance and/or math. Please let me know any opinions- THANKS!
Also to add- I’m going into Multivariate Calculus (Calc 3) next year and have always been good at math- especially calculus, but I’m a little rusty on the geometry/algebra concepts since the last time I took them were in 7th and 8th grade. Do you think that my advanced math classes will make up for my 760? I could probs do better as I didn’t study at all for the test… whoops
Great Bio score!
I would have to say though, for those schools, especially since you’re going into finance or math, you should retake Math 2.
Most of their applicants have 780-800, and even 790 is just the 75th percentile. Go for it! Seeing that you’re going into Calculus, you should be decently prepared with certain topics, but definitely refresh yourself on topics, maybe with a barrons book.
Only on College Confidential would a student think they need to “make up” for a 760. The score is fine. Spend time on other aspects of your application. Now if you were applying for MIT or Caltech where a 760 on M2 is in their 25th percentile, I’d probably give a different answer. If Georgetown, or any school, rejects you, it will not be fore a 760.
The OP is going into calc 3, which is far removed from the topics on the Subject Test. In hindsight, the OP should have taken M2 last year, or whenever s/he was completing precalc.
Great scores! If you have time, try retaking math 2, considering that is the field you want to go into and that it is 70 percentile. Bio is up to you- it is debatable whether or not you should retake it. Also- Georgetown requires 3 subject tests so make sure to study for one more!
Your scores are great! I don’t think you need to retake them. The purpose of the subject test scores is for AOs to see that you’re in the right ball park when it comes to being in the 700s(in the case of the schools you are applying to), but they are not going to find a significant difference between a 760 and a 790 or 800, they basically just glance at them to make sure you’re not stupid. I would instead spend your time focusing on the other aspects of your application, like the essays, which are one of the most important ways top schools differentiate qualified students
