Retake SAT vs SAT subject tests?

Kind of in a predicament here. Applied early to a few schools, but let's just say there's a significant chance that I may get denied (oh well. que sera sera!) but I'm working on my RD app to one more school and I don't know if it's better to try and raise my SAT I 80 points higher so I'll be in the 2000s, or retake my atrocious subject tests (670 Lit..which I know I can bump into the 720s, but 630 US History..which is frustrating because I got a 4 on the exam last year)

Any advice on which decision would be more beneficial? I need to come to a conclusion within the next few days so I can start studying again for whichever tests! Bound to reach my goals this time!

thanks

It all depends on the schools to which you are planning to apply. Try to find their data sets, and see what the average SAT I/II scores are (if that info is available). If, say, your SAT I scores match the 50th percentile of accepted students, but your subject tests are in the 25th percentile, it is probably better to retake the subject tests.

Thanks for the advice! But unfortunately the school that I’m looking at does not post the median subject test scores  I’ll probably be safer with retaking the SAT reasoning instead of the subject tests. I just hope they can see how much I’m trying!

In that case, your best gamble is likely to be trying to raise your SAT I scores.

You’re quite right dowzerw. Schools will still accept the jan. 26th date right?

I’m in the same position you are except I have never taken the Subject Tests before. I need to decide whether I am going to try and boost my crappy SAT Scores or to try and make my first and only shot at the Subject Tests a worthy one for the schools I am applying to.

Did you decide?

I knowwwww. Finally someone that can resonate! Well I’m retaking the SAT I because its just not worth it for the SAT subject tests. I got 4s on the AP tests that I took in those subjects, so I’ll send it to them so as not to think that I’m some kind of academic imbecile.
Good luck with what you decide!
