Hey, so Columbia is my second choice school, and I’ll be applying RD if I don’t get into my ED school (UChicago). My grades are mostly really good, SAT is great (1550 750 CRW 800 M), extracurriculars pretty good, and essays outstanding. I didn’t do well on my SAT Subject Tests, with my highest scores being a 700 Math Level 2 and 680 Lit. Originally I wasn’t going to bother to retake them. However, since I’m not busy anymore on December 2, I was wondering if it would be worthwhile to take them again. Since Thanksgiving break starts in a few days I think I’ll have enough time to prepare for them as long as I put the effort in. Does anybody agree with this? Or should I just go with the test scores I have now? Tbh I really don’t want to retake them, but if it helps me get in I will. Thanks!
I’m also applying to two other Ivies, plus places such as WUSTL, Tufts, Emory, etc. so I’m not considering retaking them for just Columbia, they’re for other schools too
And I’m applying as undecided, but leaning towards the social sciences
I would just go ahead and retake it, especially if you’re applying to other schools as well. Columbia allows score choice, so in the unlikely event you do worse, you can still submit your higher score. Also, Columbia doesn’t require SAT subject tests and said applicants won’t be disadvantaged by not submitting them.
I would retake it too, getting a good subject score will definitely help your college app.
I signed up for the tests, but then didn’t show up to the testing center because something else came up. Which I was super happy about, since I did not feel confident at all. So I’m stuck with the scores I have
I’m in the same boat as you. My subject test scores are lacking (700- Math II and 680 Bio-E). Everything else is satisfactory. I’m super confused on whether I should even send in my subject test scores or not.
