Retake the ACT?

ACT Composite - 31
English - 35
Math - 31
Reading - 34
Science - 25

I am applying to UC Berkeley, Davis, UCLA, and possibly Stanford.

Also is anyone aware what the score choice policy for the ACT is? Is it the same as the SAT policy or different?

Thanks.

I would certainly retake for those schools (especially considering how polarized your scores are). ACT is not “score choice” but schools do take your best scores from each section usually.

Hmm…unfortunately the UC’s don’t superscore, though I think Stanford does.
Thanks anyway! I think I will retake it.

Kitasun, do you have any tips and/or strategies for the ACT?

@bleedblue12345,
I don’t know if the California schools are different – none of my kids have applied to any. But, of the schools my kids have applied to, across much of the country, they, almost as a rule, do NOT take your best scores from each section on the ACT. They look at the ACT as a whole. As a general rule, they will look at your best scores from each section of the SAT. But my kids’ schools typically publicize that they do NOT take the best scores from each ACT section.

For what it’s worth, considering your list, Kitasun, you probably should study the science section a little more and retake. As I said, I don’t know the California schools very well at all. Are any of those a safety? I recognize 2 of them, for sure, to be lofty goals, and possibly 3. I hope you’re sure to put a safety on your list. One you can afford and where you can be happy.
