Hey, I dont know if I should retake the SATs or not. Currently, I attend ASU and am a freshman with a 3.67 first term GPA. On my SATs I received a 640 math, 600 crit reading and 620 on the other secion. I am going to be applying to all the ivies and gtown at the end of this year and, if i dont get in, again next year. Some more background info is that I graduated with a 3.0 GPA from Stuyvesant in New York and am now majoring in Economics and pre-medicine in college.

I Forgot to add that I received a 710 on the Math 1C SAT II too.

Those are pretty good scores, but if you think you can improve-and want to put the effort into studying-then I see no reason not to.

1260...all the ivies?? you may want to cross out harvard, yale, and princeton (i'm not sure princeton accepts transfer students)

you sound like you're just applying to any school that has prestige. i suggest that you find a school that fits you, academically and socially. where do you want be an 'alum' someday?

Some Ivies like UPenn don't accept retaken scores for the SAT I. However, like some people have stated on another thread, you could instead take certain subject tests for the SAT II like english in lieu of your previous scores.

Edit: Yes, Princeton doesn't accept transfers.

Thanks for the help everyone. I've decided that Im going to retake the SAT I and perhaps the SAT II in English as well. Also, I will be taking these exams next year as I have decided not to apply anywhere this year due to colleges only being able to see my first term grades. I feel they wont seriously consider my app given my abysmal high school grades and short college track record.

I would do the same in your situation. Applying for junior standing will make your high school grades weigh less, as well as give you the opportunity to raise your college GPA. Shoot for around 3.8 cumulative, and you should be a strong candidate.

even with a 3.8 GPA, ivies require high SAT scores. If you're aiming for those schools, I'd say retake them, although it'll never be the same than taking them in HS, since they'll know you took them while in college
