I got a 2340 (780V 760M 800W) in January, and I'm not really sure whether I should retake. Math is my strongest subject (I have a lot of math contest prizes, etc.), so I'm positive I'll end up with a 800 math if I retake, which would leave me with 2380 superscored. Also, five asians at my school have 2390+ (and we don't get a lot of asians in hyp every year), so I really need a very high score. On the other hand, 800 is the highest writing score I've ever gotten, and I'm worried my writing score will go down if I retake. I usually get around low 2300s on practice tests, so should I retake to get 2380superscored?

Also, I'm registered for ACT in June, so should I just focus on ACT?

60 more points on the SAT will not be the determining factor of you college acceptance. After a certain threshold, colleges don't even care anymore.

I think they stop caring when the difference between the scores is only a few questions. The difference between say a 2350 and 2400 is very small

To OP: You say it is not a troll thread but it should be.

780-760-800 is not significantly worse than 800 x 3.

But if you want to retake it (and take the ACT) simply to brag about your perfect scores then sure, go ahead.

The only risk is looking like a loser who doesn't have a life. If your E.C's, essay and letters are strong enough to counter that idea then you are OK.

Regardless of whether its a troll thread or not, I can see why OP would take ACT...I personally come from a state that rewards ACT scores with scholarship money, and NOT the SAT.

But yes, 2340 is pretty good already...so no need to retake. You won't be hurt by a non-perfect score...

He's taken it once. And at his level it's luck.... why not sign up again, brush up a few days before for an hour or two, and try your luck at getting a higher math score? Colleges take superscored, and I REALLY doubt you'll look "like a loser who doesn't have a life" for taking the SAT twice, okay... Some people take SAT bashing too far.

And yes, there is no real appreciable difference between 2340 and 2400 in college admissions, and getting an actual 2400 might make you a victim of Asian-bashing adcoms, especially if you play classical music and do math lol. (It seems like whenever an Asian has 2400 and does classical music and math he is suspected of not having a life).

But there is a difference between 2250 and 2350... basically you can only look at the first two digits (22, 23) though, those establish the range of the score.
