First of all, I just got this account, so I’m not 100% sure what the protocol is here or what the “normal” first post is, but I’ve really been wondering about this.
I got back my SAT scores today, and they were CR: 730, math: 800, WR: 800, for a total of 2330. I am totally satisfied with my overall score, but I have to say that I’m not happy that my CR is relatively low. I would be much happier if my mistakes were spread out more, because a 730 is not such a strong score, no?
Also, CR has usually been my strong point, and in practice tests I almost always got in the 760-800 range. I feel like I could do better on this section if I tried again, but I also don’t want to come off as some sort of no-life workaholic. I’m not all that worried about my scores dropping in other sections with a retake because math is my best subject and I’ll probably get an 800 unless I make a dumb mistake like 2+2=6, and in writing I got a 12 essay and no multiple choice mistakes, so I have some wiggle room there.
I really think that a 2400, or at least a 30-40 point improved score, is well within my reach and I’m wondering whether that would be a good idea or whether I should just let it go. I’ve heard a lot of people saying that a 2300 and 2400 are equivalent scores, but it doesn’t seem to me that a 730 in one section would be equivalent to a 760-800 in that same section in an admission officer’s eyes.
And please don’t call me some sort of obsessed score manic with no life or something like that, because I’ve seen it on other threads. I only studied for the SAT for 20-30 hours and would probably do at most that much over again if I retook in December.
