took sat one time, last year... 800CR 740M 740W

M/CR = 1540
Total = 2280

applying to top schools... right now I don't really want to retake this again, the reasons including I don't want to review any of it, I don't' want to pay money, and don't want to waste the time. Is there actually any point in retaking? I'm not one of those hypercompetitive perfectionists but still...

eh, just looking for opinions. thanks :)

i'm a senior, btw... so i'd have to take in january.. cutting it close, some maybe wouldn't accept that? not sure.

This is probably a decision that you'll have to make for yourself. If you truly think that you can improve your math and writing scores, and not let your reading score drop, then go ahead and take it again.
But honestly, those are AMAZING scores. You're obviously an intelligent student so I'm sure that the rest of your resume is strong. Remember, SAT scores don't define you or your application.

A lot of colleges 'super-score' (take your top scores only) so it benefits you to re-take the SAT.

You already locked in a 800 for cr, so if you drop lower on the re-test, it won't matter for those colleges that super-score. They only look at your highest score no matter how many times you re-take the SAT.

Find out if the colleges you are applying to superscore or not.

You can take the SAT on Dec 6, unless you are taking SAT-II's then.

No I wouldn't bother.

Going from 1540 to 1600 (best case scenario) won't help you too much. also, despite what the other posters said, if you were to get below 800 on reading on your retake, or if you don't improve in math, it would hurt you. If you aren't applying for engineering/math major, I wouldn't bother. You should only consider it if you KNOW you're going to 800 math, because you're not magically going to go from 740 to 800 unless you had a bad day.

Probably won't help you; just relax and be happy with your high score.
