Retake?

Hey guys,
I was just wondering if my June ACT score is sufficient for a school like Northwestern, (applying early decision) and whether or not a retake is necessary. My first ACT didn't go well at all with a composite score of a 28 just because I let my stress get the best of me. I managed to take a few practice tests, surprisingly with scores ranging from 33 to 35, but I ended up with a 31 on the June ACT (breakdown below). According to my school website, the average accepted score to Northwestern ED is a 29 (about 40 from our school apply each year/10 accepted), which seems ridiculously low. I'm at the lower end of their 25-75 ACT range (30-33), but would applying early decision slightly offset this? Basically, is the ACT score something that a school like Northwestern just checks off the list if it passes a certain mark, or is a point or two really that valuable?

Composite: 28
English:31
Math:28
Reading:28
Science:24 (had no idea what I was doing)

Composite: 31
English: 35
Math: 32 (usually got a 35 on this section in practice tests)
Reading: 28 (consistent 33 in practice tests)
Science: 29 (32-36 in practice tests)

I really appreciate your help.

I’d re-take.

I think you could definitely get into NU with a 31 as long as your essay and everything else is just as strong.

A higher score couldn’t hurt, but do what you feel you need to do!

Thanks for the replies. Any other opinions?

A 31 is a solid score but a retake couldn’t hurt. If you don’t do as well, you can just send them your highest score.

Haha. I’m in the same situation. 31 on my second retake and applying ED at NU. I think I’m taking it again in the fall.

Haha yeah I guess I’ll take it again in the Fall, too. For some reason, 32 seems like a cutoff point, but I’m probably just being pessimistic. Thanks for the input, and good luck with the ACT/application, idk11.

Thanks. You, too.

Retake it. I’ve taken the ACT a lot. Went from a 24 to a 32 and i’m still not done. Keep going.

Don’t stop 'til ya get enough
