Hi! I am a high school senior and I just got my September ACT scores.
35 English, 36 Math, 28 Reading lmao :’(, 30 Science
When do you think it would be best to retake the test - October 22 or December 10?
I am going to apply to UC’s (Nov 30 deadline) and schools on CommonApp (Jan 1 deadline). I will also be taking the SAT and SAT Subjects but I am not sure which dates yet.
I am not too sure about where I want to go but I really want to do my best to somewhat make up for 3.5 UW gpa (disclaimer: Yes, I do know a standardized test score will not save me from my low gpa and that there are other factors in the college application process.)
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you so much!
I can’t tell if that was sarcastic…
Anyways, and please note I don’t have much experience with test-taking, I think you should take the October one if you want to make it in time for applying to UC. Although it depends if you think you’re prepared enough.
@raventhemage
My original post wasn’t sarcastic but my reply above was.
Thanks for your insight!
I would retake in October or not at all. Concentrate on prepping for the Reading section. The Reading prep will probably also help you in the Science section, because all the answers are there in the text, and most errors are due to uncareful reading. The UC’s will not superscore (I believe–please confirm) but a superscore might help you at some of your other schools.
What Subject tests do you want to take? You can’t take SAT subject tests on the same day as the SAT so you should forget about taking the SAT and concentrate on the ACT.
Thank you @redpoodles ! That was what I was planning on. I did better on the reading during practice tests but I guess I didn’t pace myself enough on test day.
@Testingearly I was thinking about taking the SAT in November and then the chemistry and physics SAT subject tests in December. Thanks for your input!
The UCs don’t really care much about test scores. They definitely won’t use them to make up for a low GPA. You are already a little mismatched with a much higher test score than your GPA would suggest. Just saying, a 34-36 isn’t going to help you any more than a 32 for the UC system.
@notveryzen Yea. That is why I am going to apply to more private schools than UC’s
