I probably sound insane after that title...I took the MATHII earlier this year, and I'm sure that I could get an 800 the second time. I'm not retaking it for the 10 point improvement...it's more of a personal challenge and a bet that I can get an 800. However, will Yale and others think I'm crazy? Or just an overachiever?

Don't feed money to ETS ... Donate it to charity :)

I'm already signed up for 3, and changed my mind about the last one, so I'm thinking of just taking the Math again for the heck of it

So you're just asking if colleges care? No...

790 looks more aesthetically appealing compared to an 800
i'm a synesthetic

No one's perfect. 790 is killer.

i know exactly how you feel.
but think about it like this... what if for some crazy reason you mess up and dont improve or worst case, lower your score??

an 800 will give colleges just one more reason to say "hey this kid got a perfect score, he/she ll prolly go on to top tier schools so we ll waitlist them"

o____O
could you donate that unwanted, unloved 790 to me? Please? I would dance in the streets if I got a 790. I think that a 790 is pretty dang good! I wouldn't want to risk retaking!

Eh, I can kind of understand retaking something below a 750, but even that's stretching it for me. I'd say keep your money and buy yourself a treat. Many of us would love a 790. ;)

sushant brings up a good point. Sometimes having 2390/790 etc is even better than a perfect...since perfect scorers can experience tufts syndrome/top tier schools intentionally wanting to reject to show they dont accept ALL perfect scorers. The 790 demonstrates your clear ability to do well without the potential negatives of an 800 lol.

If you already signed up, you might as well take it. It is something like $8 more, and it shows colleges that you are a perfectionist (which is either good or bad, but probably good).
Anyway, good luck with the test.

790s and 800s are basically the same
