Retaking a class and averaging

Ok, so if I got an F in a cc class in high school and took it again and got an A, would the grade for the class be averaged and be equivalent to a C when calculated?

Yes.

4.0/2=2.0 or C

Whoa, so you’re saying the grade would be calculated into my GPA as a C?

No. It will not be counted a C. Both grades will be calculated into your GPA with its own individual value. How it actually affects your GPA depends upon the number of credits you have.

If you have only 2 4-credit courses in your GPA, one F and 1 A, your net GPA would be 2.0.

In reality you will have many more grades than just 8 credits/2 classes.

If you want to run scenarios, google “AMCAS + grade calculator”. UCSF has a Excel-based spreadsheet you can download.

It would be the equivalent of two C’s.

Ooooh ok! Thanks so much. It makes sense now.

So then it would be calculated into my GPA as 2 C’s instead of 1.

Which is to say, it would count exactly the same as getting some A in another course instead of a retake.
