If someone was interested in getting a masters degree in economics, but as an undergrad, failed calculus, what can they do if the degree in econ that they want to apply for has a requirement for calc? Obviously transcripts cannot be changed, but can classes be taken at a community college or online at a reputable university as credit to be added to a transcript post graduation?

It will be on a separate transcript from the CC or college or university, and you will have to send that transcript separately when you apply to grad school. People do this all the time.

Happy parents at every turn…! Yes, the calculus class may be repeated at any recognized institution, so long as it is an equivalent course. And yes, a separate transcript showing the class will be required. I work in a graduate admissions office, and we receive these single course transcripts every day. The most important thing is that the graduate school receives a transcript showing a strong performance in the class! It may be advisable to address, but not dwell on, the failing grade in the personal statement.
