Retaking a class

I am currently a sophomore in high school, and I have taken several math classes at my local community college. This last semester, I really didn't like my English teacher, so I decided to take my English class there too, and get more credit. I was placed in English 100 - composition, and it is a transfer class (I think it is equivalent to freshmen comp, but I'm not sure). I am not doing anywhere near as well as I would have liked to, just because I wasn't quite ready for the class.

If I retake the class this summer, will both grades show up on my high school transcript?

Also, how will it affect my GPA (will they average the grades or what)?

Lastly, I was hoping to go to a good technical school, (Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, maybe maybe MIT), can I explain that this was a harder class than every single English class at my high school, and still have a chance of getting in?

Any straightforward answers are appreciated

it might not mention the grade, but it will probably mention whether you passed or failed. you have to ask your guidance counselor- it varies from school to school. I probably won’t affect your GPA at all, but again it varies.

unfortunately, it will also negatively affect your admissions chances at the top schools your mentioning even if you explain.

good luck with everything :)
