Hello. I'm a rising senior and during my junior year, I took Calculus AB and I got D's both semesters. It was quite difficult. Would it be best if I retake the course during senior year, retake it during the summer at a JC, or take night classes? I know 2 D's would look horrid on my transcript and I want to get into a decent school. I ended senior years with 4 A's, 1 B and the D. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Not enough information. Are you going to be so busy during Senior year that you won't be able to retake Calc at night school? Do you have serious plans for summer? Do you want a challengin' course instead of retake of Calc AB in your 12th?

Oh, Sorry. Well I don't think I'll be greatly busy during senior year - just a good volume of volunteer work. I've nothing over the summer but summer courses are loading up pretty fast. I've decided that after taking Calc AB AP and English 3 AP (Which I didn't perform as horrid in), that I'd stick to one AP class next year(which is bad). I'm just worried about what Colleges might say when they see that I took the class twice or something.

bump (10 char)

That's better than D.

hmmmmmmm I have a similar question.

I Took AP Calc AB at school, and I got a D the 1st qtr, and a C the 2nd.

Our district has a "Grade Forgiveness POlicy." If one takes a class and gets a D/F, and retakes it, the class will still show up on the transcript, but it will not be included in GPA, etc....

As a result, since I had never gotten a C before EVER, and was 5/550-600 the time) I got a D on the semester exam (yes on purpose, such a CCer), so I had a D for the semester.I had to drop the class. My GPA took a blow, but my WGPA went up a tad bit (due to my grades in the rest of my AP classes), and since I had enough cushin, my rank still stayed at 5... pretty funny.

So, I took Calculus I at my community college... (we used the larson book, so it was the same thing, plus our state articulation thingy said it was equiv to calc AB, so it got weighted as if it were an AP course) Since I knew about derivatives, more or less, I knew about half of the class and was able to get an A for the semester. This, coupled with the grade forgiveness, brought my GPA back to normal, and my rank went to 3rd/550-600...which is where it stayed, and where I am as of now.

The AP Calculus grade shows up on my transcipt... as a scarlet D... surounded by wonderful As (and a random B here or there)... but it isnt counted in my GPA. HOW WILL COLLEGES DEAL WITH THIS? I'm taking AP Calc BC and Calc 2 next year... (im better prepared as a senior) ... argh... i hope they ignore it and go "wow, an A in Calculus I..."

thanks!!

Definitely retake it. I took Calc 1 this past fall at our local community college and ended up with a final grade of a C+:( Although I got all A's on the quizzes, I could just never do too well on the tests and must have really bombed the final. I ended up retaking Calc 1 winter quarter and had an excellent teacher that really made the subject come alive for me and explained everything soo clearly. I've just completed Calc 2 with an A this past Spring and I can honestly contribute it to the strong foundation that I gained from really being solid with differentiation. Calc builds on itself and if you feel you're behind on the concepts right now, I'd recommend you repeat it. Yes, it is a little bit of a kick in the ego to have to "retake" the class, but trust me...its worth it.
