Hey folks,

Just wondering what your thoughts were on retaking courses for grad school. Due to some mistakes, I ended up failing a final and went from an A- to a C. Yeah, not a horrible grade (unlike an F), but a bad grade amongst some mediocre grades due to two lackluster semesters could be detrimental if you're trying to stay sharp. Let me know your thoughts! If you're curious about which grad school, it doesn't matter. The programs I want to enter are competitive as hell due to 5-11 students per program per year, in a nutshell. Let me know if you need clarification on that last sentence, because even that confuses me. Thank you!

Yours,
Falthor

i think i would. if your GPA is going to decrease because of the C, then I would retake it. but also, there are going to be other things in your application package. are you taking time off before you apply? will you work in your field? test scores, recommendations, etc. can potentially make up for a lackluster transcript. good luck!

Hey stubbornhorse,

Sorry to get back to you so late, but to answer your questions: don’t know if I’m taking off some time before I apply. Doubt it. I’m applying senior year. May take a gap year for a fellowship or to do something with my life. I will work in my field. Hopefully my test scores will be good, and I’m sure my recommendations will be spot-on. In fact, the prof. who gave me the C will be writing one of them.

Thanks so much!
