Alright so this might be a stupid question to ask, but please don't hit me over the head with it. With that said, can a student take an AP exam a second time? I know a student probably can't, but I haven't read anywhere as of yet that says a student can only take an AP exam once.

Of course you can retake an exam, 4 times if you really want to, all that College Board cares about is that you retaking the exam will bring them more $$$$$$. But you probably shouldnt retake. Mostly because you should take the exam just after you have completed the AP course, otherwise you wont probably remember much 1 year after.

Alright now that I've got my answer, yeah your right about the AP course part, but I'm thinking of retaking the AP English Language and Composition exam. I COULD take the AP English Literature and Composition exam for the FIRST time, but I hear it's harder and there's a required reading list or something. I got a 2 when I took the AP English Lang and Comp exam last May, and I hear it isn't THAT hard to pass. What do you guys think? Oh and I still remember how the exam is structured, etc etc. And I actually remember my rhetoric, it was the multiple choice section that screwed me over bad.

I believe a "Synthesis" is included this year.

Take both tests. This year you're more intellectually mature so you'll probably do better on Language anyhow.

I say take both tests as well. Good Luck :0

Thanks a ton for the advice, but I totally forgot there is a new "synthesis" essay this year. Crap, it looks kinda hard too but I'll probably take it anyways

Ok, so I have no idea what the "synthesis" essay is, as I'm out of high school now.

However, I took the AP Lit test last year. In my opinion, it wasn't any harder than the AP language one, just different. No required reading, but you ought to read a lot (prose and poetry). Especially since on the third essay (at least when I took it) you have to use a book you've read that's of literary quality to answer the prompt. Of course, you can take the AP Lang again, or both. I personally would focus on one or the other. Maybe start out with both, then choose once you learn more about them. That will make your studying more efficient, as well as save you money. Unless, of course, the college you're looking at gives you credit for both. My college gave me only gave me credit for one exam, though I got 5s on both.

My daughter retook the French Lang because there was a technical problem, the oral portion could not be graded, and she was given a 4. Since she is a native speaker and lived in Paris until she was ten, this really upset her. She (and her teacher) was convinced that if the oral had been scored she would have had a 5. So junior year, she took six AP exams, including the French Lang. Unfortunately, she had five exams in three days, and she was not allowed a rescheduling. She did get a 5 on the Lang, but because she was so exhausted by the third day there were more 4's than she would have liked. So, the answer to your question is retake it if you really want to, but know that the effort may not be worth the added time and expense.
