Retaking classes and GPA

Im on academic probation with a 1.7 GPA and was told i was on academic probation. I messed up real bad freshman year and I’m a biology major, but after today i know I’m switching majors. I got a D in chemistry last semester. I’m retaking the class and I’m pretty sure i failed it. I feel so stupid and i don’t even know what to do. What will happen to my academics since i failed the class I’m retaking? Someone told me that they THINK if you’re on academic probation you’re not supposed to fail a class even if you’re retaking it. Yes, i do know that the school takes the higher grade and it counts towards your GPA.

Are you premed then both classes will be on your transcript and be part of your gpa calculation. For med school there is no grade replacement.

D.O schools allow grade replacement but M.D schools average the two grades when courses are retaken.

DO schools no longer allow grade replacement. Students depending on grade replacement are finding out they no longer qualify for admission to DO schools.
The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) announced that starting May 1, 2017 (this application cycle), the AACOMAS application will no longer use grade replacement for GPA calculation.
