retaking classes and medical school

So I'm pre-med currently taking, Chem 14C and Math 32A. I'm pretty sure if I study my butt off I can get an A in chem. But Math with Martin is killing me since I did below average on the first two midterms. 46 vs the average which was 50 and 28 vs. the average which was 28.
Opinions on:
Studying for chem, failing math, and retaking later with a different professor?
Will med schools look down on this? Retaking the class and doing better?

If I end up with a C on my transcript that will def lower my GPA but if I retake the class, I might do better and get a higher GPA.

What do you guys say?

Thanks

You need a C- to retake classes. If you do retake classes:

MD schools average the grades for both original and retaken class. Not that high of a effect in the end; if you get a C- in original and an A in the retake, your GPA would be recalculated as a B/B- average.
DO schools replace your original grade with the retaken grade, so your recalculated GPA will look better.

You might as well have taken Math 3 series for pre-med (easier), but too late now to switch series.

Yeah you should’ve taken the 3 series but oh well

Do whatever you can to not fail a class! But I doubt you’re anywhere near failing with those averages.
If you get a C in a pre-req, take it and move on. Not worth retaking unless its a C- (in which case, you’re required to retake). Just do better in the next science class to prove it was a fluke. A few C’s aren’t going to kill your application.

Thanks guys!
Sorry the average for the second midterm was a 39! typo :(

Yea I know I was supposed to take the 3 series but I thought I would be “smart” and challenge myself. Besides, I was looking into a math minor. I might just move onto 33A.
How do medical schools look at math classes taken at a community college? That would be immensely easy.
I just don’t like the idea of a C on my transcript. That’s why I was considering retaking it.

Get a C-, you can retake. But for the time you spend retaking and the mild improvement you get since MD schools average both grades, it’s better to just work harder and get those As in 33A and beyond.

Don’t take any BCPM classes at community college, especially since they’re pre-reqs for med school. Admissions looks down upon community-level pre-reqs. You can probably take GEs at CC without penalty though, but I believe UCLA will not allow you to concurrently enroll in CC classes; as a result, your CC classes will not count towards credit on your DPR.
