I'm considering taking one of my classes that I got a D+ in. It's a math class and I was wondering if anyone knows whether or not retaking the class replaces the D+ or is it calculated along with the D+ into my GPA?

And how bad is a D+/D/D- for a course at Berkeley on your transcript? What would people recommend? Retaking the class or just leaving it and stop wasting time?

I know it's bad to even score so low. I had an B+ average on the quizzes but when it came to exams, I always panicked. And half of the time during the exam was spent wondering what to do after...P/NP, transfer schools, calculating how well I had to do on the final to negate this...etc. And the problems that I did do I read half of the instructions, did the part that it asked and at the last 15 mins before the exam was over I'd realize I didn't do the other part it asked when going over and checking the exam...

Any and all help/advice is appreciated, future thanks.

On the DARS LEGEND it says classes labeled with a “>X” is a duplicate course and no GPA, no units are awarded and classes labeled with “!!” is a duplicate of a deficient grade-GPA & units count. So is it safe to say that classes you retake do replace the previous grade? Have pasted the DARS LEGEND below and bolded the labels I mentioned.

Still I have the question of whether or not D’s are considered a failing grade and should classes with D’s be retaken? I’m not planning on doing grad school. But how would future employers look at it?

[How to Repeat a Course - Office Of The Registrar](http://registrar.berkeley.edu/current_students/academic_records_transcripts/courserep.html)

12 units of D+, D, D-, or F grades may be repeated with grade replacement for Berkeley undergraduate GPA purposes. (Graduate and professional schools look at the grade records however they want to look at them, which is not necessarily the same as Berkeley undergraduate GPA calculations.)

You need to check your major to see if there is a minimum grade for courses in your major (often C- or C).

Employers might be more concerned about GPA as an initial screen (e.g. interview candidates with ____ major and ____ GPA or higher).

Thanks for answering, your response was really helpful!

Hi,

I have a follow up question regarding this topic. There is a class I’m taking right now that I wish to repeat over the summer. Should I even take the final exam for that class? I don’t want to end up with something like a C- and end up not being able to repeat it.

I’ve taken actions to contact the prof but I don’t know if I can get to sit down and discuss with him before the final next Monday. If I can get some advice here it would really ease my mind a little.

Thanks
