when retaking a class that you didn't pass, and then the grade you get is passing, does it replace the grade in your GPA? how much does it affect your GPA?

Depends on your school. At my school, you can replace a failing grade in your GPA up to a certain number of times, but your original grade still remains on your transcript. But you have to check the policies at your school.

If you have any plans for law school, be aware that, as long as the original grade is on your transcript it wil be factored into your GPA for law school admissions purposes along with the replacement grade, even if your own college doesn’t include it. (I don’t know about other professional schools.)
