RETAKING CLASSES

I just finished my first semester of college at a CC and I screwed up. I basically have to retake 4/5 classes, VERY BAD. I am retaking one of the classes this winter, and the other three in spring. I am also now on academic probation so I can only take 12 units (which is enough to retake the three classes in the spring) so I will basically be completely behind from my goal of transferring in two years. If I can manage to get A's in the courses I retake and beyond, will colleges be able to somewhat look pass my messed up first semester? UCB and UCSD are my goal colleges with a major in Psychology or Business.

UCs allow grade replacement, so it won’t affect your GPA. However, it will still be on you transcript.

Have you examined the reasons you did not succeed this semester? Are you prepared to make changes so that you can do better?

Also, a third year is not detrimental at all. If it allows you to finish all of the classes with a high GPA, go for it.

Yes, they will. It’s not unusual to mess up and the UCs are lenient. What they will want to see is motivation and a big upward trend in GPA. If you do summer school, you might still be able to salvage the two year plan.
