retaking classes

Hey, i'm registering for classes next week and was wondering if it'd better to retake classes I have C's in. I'm a math and physics major and the C's are in linear algebra(4000 level) and modern physics(2000 level) - due entirely to my lack of focus that semester, not competence. I have A's in all the hardest senior level physics classes and plan on taking graduate and more advanced classes if i didn't retake the classes. I'm a soph and gpa is a 3.3. Retaking would give it a significant boost. I'm torn on it. I'd prefer to get in one of the top schools and i'm pretty sure i can keep near 4.0's the rest of my semesters here. Anyone have any expirience with a situation like this? What would graduate schools prefer?

Thanks.

I would take higher level classes and do well in them. Upward trends in grades are usually seen as promising and mastering graduate coursework would show that you can handle the workload.

Don't make your decisions based on what will look best. Challenge yourself and try to learn as much as you can. This will help you out more because you will be more knowledgeable about your field and better prepared to succeed than if you worry about looking good on paper.
