I was just looking through some threads, and I read something about retaking classes...When should you retake a class? Like, if you get a C or below, or what?

You have to retake the course if it's a premed prereq and below a C

Otherwise, people on here say there's no reason to bother

so a C is fine? wow I can't believe I didn't know this before :/

I have below a C in my General Chemistry class but I took it P/F after I realized that I was going to do poorly on it. If I retake it and do really well on it, do I still have a fair shot of being admitted into med school?

Why did you change it to P/F instead of dropping the course? Getting a W would have probably been better because most schools won't let you retake a class that you haven't failed (I'm assuming you received a P). But yes, of course you still have a shot. One (or two or several) bad grades isn't going to keep you out of medical school.

I didn't pass it. P/F a course means that if you fail it, it won't go into your GPA. Anything lower than a C shows up as a "F" but doesn't get calculated into the GPA.

My advisor suggested against the "W" and we have a while to decide if we want to P/F so after my third test, I went to fill out the form

Is the advice still the same?

Well, a P doesn't get counted into your GPA either (at least at UCLA), but yes, the advice is the same. Retake the class and do well. Admittedly, you will have a lot more explaining to to about the Fail than you would have for a W, but whats done is done. Make the best of it.
