retaking courses

Let's just say I didn't have a good sophomore year AT ALL. That's the best way I can some it up unless you want six pages (yes, quite literally). Due to certain problems in my household I slumped in grades during sophomore year especially during first semester. I wanted to know if colleges would take an online courses grade over the actual transcript grade, with a reason of course. I am currently trying to talk to the dean of academica at my school regarding retaking a course. If this is not possible (which I don't think it is) would taking community college courses in the summer as a replacement help? Thank you

my daughter needed to retake a course that was required for her major- however because of finaid issues- she was not able to retake at her college.
On her transcript both grades will be shown and only courses that are taken at her college will be factored into her GPA
however she will have the course ticked off as completed.
If she had been able to retke the course on campus- then her first grade would have been dropped.
I don't know how representative her school is- itis always good to check with your own school.

just a note, i'm a junior in high school

ok I was confused cause you referred to a "dean" we don't have deans except in colleges here.
Then I don't think it would be a problem especially if your high school accepts it for your graduation requirement

No, I don't hink that taking CC classes or online classes will mitigate a poor to failing high school grade.

You can mitigate it by continuing to take difficult classes, doing well in those classes by learning the matierial you failed with the help of tutors or summer school.

If you can prove the lower grades were due to personal circumstancs, ie Freshman and junior year were stellar--then you might have a story to tell. Of course, that story might have limited appeal at selective schools, something you will have to accept.

Zetsui,
I think this is something unique to each high school and you will have to get the final word from your dean, which it sounds like you are waiting for. I know in our HS, if you fail a class and re-take it, both grades go on the transcript, but you cannot re-take a class unless you fail it. No do-overs for D's or C's.
