Retaking same course at different community college. What happens?

I'm not doing to well in a Chemistry class at SMC and want to retake it again.
My plan is: Fail it this spring at SMC and retake an equivalent chem course at Ohlone college.

1)If I told SMC that I retook the same class at another college, would they erase the F in chem and fix my transcript?
2)Am I even allowed to retake an equivalent course at a different college?
3)When UC's see a transcript, will they see that a student failed a class the first time, and retook and passed it? Or when you retake it, does it completely erase the F?

This is very important to me because that F will severely hurt my GPA at SMC and will hurt my chances when I apply for transfer this upcoming fall.

You have to ask SMC. Just because you retake a course doesn’t mean the grade is replaced. It is only replaced if the institution where you got the F allows you to retake it at another college. If not, then both courses will be counted into your gpa. So if SMC doesn’t allow you to retake it at ohlone and you did it anyways and got an A, then you would have an A at ohlone and a F at SMC which would average to C.

this is the same question as #1

The F is still on your transcript and must till be reported. If you failed a class they will see it.

1) No, they will not erase the F. Both schools have different policies into coursework.
2) Yes, you can but it may not be articulated into the GPA at SMC. You still will have the F in SMC and w/e you recieve on the other.
3) Well if you’re planning on following through your thought then the UC’s will see that you’ve taken it at SMC (F) and Ohlone College (w/e grade received). It will not erase the F but it will be a little iffy for calculating the GPA.

Thank you for the quick replies.

I think retaking it somewhere else is going to make it very complicated. I’ll just retake the course at SMC then. Thanks again guys!

Yea, retake it, don’t try going to different schools.

aren’t SMC and Ohlone college in two completely different parts of California? o___o

I retook a chem class in a completely different part of CA. I had to submit a petition to the school where I received the F. They ended up replacing the grade, but the classes were extremely similar.

ummm Im in a similar situation for my math class. I got a W during da fall and I am not gong to pass it this spring. I was told that I would need to petition to take the class and that I should just take it somewhere else. If I start taking classes at a different CC and continue to go there for my other classes is that ok?

@ nixietink, so, did you move from so-cal to nor-cal or something? vice-versa?

Yes SMC is in Socal and Ohlone is in Norcal. I was thinking about spending my summer up in norcal (home). But it just doesn’t look like it will work, and it will end up making things more difficult.

So huhuh89 if if you receieved a W the first time, and about to fail this spring, they will allow you to take it again once more. however if you fail it again after spring, you will have to petition. Thats how it goes at my college, and I would assume it should be the same at yours. Good luck!

Thnx EJ20 for the response yea I think that math wont be that big of a deal.

However my online theater class seems iffy =/

I think the highest grade i can get in the class is a C. I wanted to just not pass it so I can retake it and salvage my GPA, but the teacher is retiring and I am not sure if it will be offered again. And the teacher told me I cant take it somewhere else.

man I screwed up big time this semester.

Transfer- Yes, I moved from norcal to socal.
