Hello,

I'm going into my freshman year in college, and I'm keeping the idea of transferring in the back of my mind. To cover my bases, I would like to improve my scores. I got a 32 (29 writing, 34 math, 33 reading, 33 science) on the ACT and a 2060 on the SAT (660 reading, 740 math, 660 writing), with a 3.7 unweighted GPA. Is it best to retake both exams, or would it be better to put all efforts into studying for one exam (more confident on the ACT)? Also, is there a preferred date to take the exam (like is taking it earliest the best option)?

Thanks!

Depending on how long you stay before transferring, those scores (and your high school GPA) won’t do anything for you. From what I have seen when looking around for transfer schools, once you have ~30 credits they primarily look at your college courses and GPA through those courses. I would look into the school(s) you want to transfer to and check their policy. Once you take enough courses, your SAT/ACT won’t really be saying much about you if you keep your GPA really high.

Thanks for the reply! I would only transfer during my freshman year, in order to begin the next fall semester at a different school. I guess that means my transfer app would only a e grades from my first semester. Would it still benefit me to take the ACT to improve my scores if I submit the applications in the second semester?
