so i want to transfer to Dartmouth, and my SAT II is as follows, 630(bio M) i am a life science major, so my score is really sad, 700writing, 780iic.
i am thinking of taking physics and chem, b/c i know i can get 700+, so when i apply i can leave out bio :). but the problem is i am in university and i am enrolled in chm and physics, should i bother taking them?

bump! should i take more SAT IIs?

sure, why not? if you take them and get amazing scores, even if it doesn't help you it certainly won't hurt you either. i'm going to be applying for junior year transfer and i plan on taking the SATs and some SAT IIs just because my high school scores were sooooo miserable.

i would not waste your time preping for SAT II subject tests b/c they aren't important for transfer admission. The SAT I also btw includes a writing test in it, so that is like a subject SAT II test.

i got a 440 on the math section of the SAT, i really shouldn't bother retaking it? it appears on my transcripts so...the schools will see it.

a 440 is pretty horrible, isn't that below the national average.

How do you know this?

Another fine example of The Intuition Pump at work: purported truisms with no corroboration.

bball, i know you may not be aware but there is such a thing as positive reinforcement. Your negative comments on all of these threads serve no purpose for the good of the decent people that seek help here. Here is a saying you should live by: "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."

i just find it a farse that this person is worrying about SAT II subject tests when his/her sat math portion is so freaking low. If you haven't realized, only like the very best of schools use SAT II subject tests. I find it very hard to believe that any top university would take someone as a transfer with a 440 on their SAT math portion as a transfer.

Farce

I agree with bball87. Though he could have presented his response more tactfully, the math score is not only a cause for concern for an admissions officer at a top tier school, but also the student who is considering applying to such a school.

well...it wasn't me that was worrying about the SAT IIs it was newbyreborn, i just said i planned on taking some... and i never said i was trying to get into a top tier school. i never said i was an expert in college admissions, i offered my thoughts. my apologies if it they were incorrect. in regards to my score, that's the reason i thought i should retake it...because it's clearly a red flag as to my abilities...it's embarassing, and i'm capable of doing alot better. i was lazy in high school and my scores (and the rest of my transcripts) show it...but i've worked hard this past year, especially in math, and that shows now as well....geez people...no need to jump down my throat and speak of me as though i'm going to be a leper in the transfer admissions process...

so i guess i shouldn't retake SAT II then?
but bball, you mention that only top schools look at SAT IIs, i am trying desperately to transfer to Dartmouth, but my SATs are below avg for the school :(. i was denied for freshman admission.
i haven't retaken SATs after that, (SAT I, highest in 3 sittings combined, 800M, 600V) and SAT II scores mentioned above, but after i applied, i have done some pretty amazing things(in my opinion anyway). I proposed and organized a famine raised a few thousands $, nationally ranked on a contest. and even in university(university gpa not proud of :(, 3.4ish) with all the study i have continued with a lot of EC(i do them b/c i find University is extremely tedious, and they help me get through the tough times, and because i just love them!). so yeah, Dartmouth is my dream school, and i am just trying to optimize my chances :)

let me clarify, i dont know of any university that requires sat IIs for transfer admission. I may be wrong, but all of them say, SAT I is a requirement and SAT II scores are not required. Many good schools don't even require SAT II scores for freshman admission including WUSTL, Northwestern, and Chicago.
