hello, i'm a new member so don't know where to post this question.

I took Jan SAT. It was my first SAT and scored like this.( I'm an international and my language in school isn't English)

M: 780
W: 780
CR: 670

I know the CR score is very low . but on test day I faced time constraints and therefore couldn't finished questions in time. I'm planning to take it in October. So I'll get 4 months from June to get prepared for CR. the problem is I can't decide what to do. is my math and writing score good enough for top 50 engineering schools? most people are saying I'll need a 800 in math. don't know why as I've 800 in math level 2 and physics. should I consider studying for math and writing or should I just concentrate on CR? bit confused. will 4 month be enough to get my CR score up to 740-760 range or I should forget about this? please help.

If you can bring the CR above 700 (preferably CR+M over 1500), then you would be much more competitive. Math at 780 means you made one mistake which is usually a careless one. I would suggest to do more timed full practice test in addition to studying for CR. Have you tried the 500 SAT words list and the 5000 SAT words list?
I used Direct hits. Memorized all of them but bombed. Don’t know what to do.

I’m planning to complete 5 novels. 800 words from barrons+ 400 from direct hits+ 200 from barron’s SAT 2400. I’ve 32 practice tests from collegeboard. In total I’ve 67 critical reading tests. If I can complete them will that bring my score up to 750+? How to use these tests? I’ve four month vacation and it will start from june 4th. I’ve to complete apps too. Will these be enough to get me a 750+ score? Don’t know anything.

farcry007,

did you see many words on the SAT that came from Direct Hits? Plus what books did you mainly use to study Math and Writing?

Yes, it is possible to go to 740~760 in 4 months. But you’ll need a hell of a work as you need to work on application.

The problem is vocabulary and speed of your reading as english not your school language. So, work with that first for 2 weeks. In this 2 weeks, first learn the definitions of the words of literature like tone, attitude, mood and other things. It will take 3~5 days to go through a good introductory literature book. After that read 1~2 good books like scientific american’s the brain, evolution etc. Plus fiction like 1984, Emma. Don’t do cramming. Read like an avid reader. Ex. When reading, look for tone , attitude and other things. It’ll help a lot later. You’ll need 10 days to complete everything. Surely, you’ll need DH but don’t just memorize the words but look for those words in articles you’ll read. This 10 day will increase your reading speed in english and therefore, you’ll get rid of the time shortage in passages. If you’ve completed BB once, I recommend that you go through the answer analysis in book owner’s area after you’ve completed the BB once again because blind practicing won’t help. Look for the reason behind correct answer choice. This will take 15 days in total to do all of the works I’ve suggested. This 15 days are not going to increase your score in the 740+ range but surely it’ll take you in the 690~710 range. Before practicing, just make sure that you’ve gone through all the answer explanations of BB. Don’t waste your 31 practice tests from collegeboard. Do it in this way for 2 month, i’m sure you’ll be in 750~770 by october. Sorry, I made a huge post. Hope this helps .GL

If you have already done so many practice tests, you probably have reached a plateau in test skills. It seems you need to focus on the basic knowledge behind the test in order to get the final boost in score.
