Retaking the GRE

Hello all,

I was wondering what implications would it have on my chances of grad school if I chose to retake the GRE simply because I was not satisfied with my score? I've been told repeatedly that CS majors are expected to score an 800 on the GRE-Q, and I have a huge habit of making stupid mistakes.

Just wondering,

Thanks!

What are your scores?

you dont need an 800q. Where did you get THAT idea?

for MS, 750 is fine. For Phd 770+ is good.

Whoever told you that you needed a perfect score is an idiot. Stop listening to that guy now.

I’m wondering if I should retake, too. I’m in physics, and only got a 770 in quant (poor time management on my part). Everyone I know got 800 on quant.

However, I did get 800 on the verbal (don’t know how, since I put practically no effort into it). I retake the test, I lose the perfect verbal just for the chance at improving my quant by 30 points…

I would never retake with a 750+, for ANY field. The GRE is far from being that important.

I’m not trying to be rude, but if you’re really that worried about getting a perfect score on your GMAT/GRE/Whatever standardized test, then you really need to re-evaluate your assessment of your self worth. A perfect score does not make you a perfect applicant. A perfect application package is someone who’s got a good sum of their individual academic, personal, and professional accomplishments.
