So I took the SAT for the first time in January and got a 2350(750 CR) and am wondering if I should try to retake to get a better reading/math combined score. If I get a worse score will colleges factor that in? I am trying to get into some pretty high level universities(Stanford MIT etc) and was just wondering if retaking was a good/bad choice depending on if colleges will count a potentially lower score against me.
As an MIT student, it is not worth retaking a 2350. You’ll waste 4 hours on a Saturday that can be spent doing better things.
At that level, it’s even possible your score could go down. Take the 2350 and run!
If anything, try the ACT, to see if you perform better on the section where you had the lowest SAT score, but most people will tell you to keep that score. It won’t guarantee your admission to MIT, Stanford, or Harvard, but no college is going to reject you on the basis of that score.
Congratulation on your 2350 aggregate score! I believe you’d be unwise to retake the SAT I examination.
